Abhishek Kumar, Ph.D. received his Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics from the University of Bielefeld in Germany and subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Biology at the University of Padova in Italy where he established pipelines for Roche 454-based transcriptome analyses for insects and fishes. Thereafter he moved to the Institute of Botany at the University of Kiel in Germany where he established multi-omics approaches for characterizing future drug-like compounds, deduced biosynthetic gene clusters of marine fungi and studied fungal adaptions. Currently, he has to his credit, sequencing of the largest numbers of marine fungal genomes in the public domain. During this period, he established strong collaborations with several European groups from Denmark, Germany, France and Poland. Later, he moved to the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg, Germany where he worked on familial cancer genomics and developed pipelines for analyses of whole-exome and whole-genome sequencing data and analysis of more than three hundred samples of various cancer types. He is a recipient of prestigious Ramalingaswami Fellowship awarded by Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. At IOB, he is employing multi-omics approaches for studying cancer and neurological disorders and developing computational pipelines for detailed analysis of genomes.
